Ebony and Ivory Necklace

Ebony and Ivory Necklace

29 November 2011

It's no secret that I love me some Devil May Cry. I have a... special affection for Dante's twin guns, Ebony and Ivory; so much so that I've named my handhelds after them (the PSP is Ebony, and the DS is Ivory... the PS3 is Alastor, which is a whole different story). I wanted to try to make them as charms, both different tones of silver. Unfortunately it took about 20 shots and three different lighting configurations to get the camera to recognize that they were in fact two different tones of silver and not just BLAZE OF SHINY. Better in person, but... you know how that goes.

The necklace itself is extremely adjustable, allowing for the guns to hang at the same height or one above the other. Whatever makes you feel more ready to take on those poor demons who never saw you coming. As for the charms themselves, they're actually some combination of smooth and polished, and rough and obviously hand-made/carved. Somehow I just enjoyed how that came out.

Double Sided Mushroom Bracelet

Double Sided Mushroom Bracelet

29 November 2011

So I had a silly little idea that I might make a simple little 1-Up mushroom bracelet. ...Plans changed, as they do. I'd been experimenting with double-sided bracelets and wanted to try to put a Poison mushroom on the back of this, because... I'm weird like that? It turned out better than I expected for the style I used, I think, and then I went and made that little "mushroom button" as a clasp. I think it looks like rough-hewn old pewter, but maybe it's more "gunmetal". Whatever, it works.

Dangly Tachikoma Necklace

Dangly Tachikoma Necklace

29 November 2011

Who wouldn't love a tiny little Tachikoma looking out for them? I did not plan this. I know I say that a lot, but I mean it every time. I just saw the back bead, which happened to be next to the round bead, and... yeah. I refuse to try and explain how much of a pain it was to get the wire to work exactly like I wanted it to, but I succeeded and it's over now and that seems really important. And, well, Tachikoma!

So I had the little Tachikoma, right? Surely that was over and i could get back to other things. ...And then somehow the idea of making a whole necklace for it happened, and... I don't know. I went through my beads, and there was this utterly gorgeous blue agate that worked perfectly. So. Yes. That's several more hours of my life, putting that thing together. I do hope it's worthy of the Major herself.

(Ghost in the Shell and Tachikomas belong to Masamune Shirow, Production I.G, and probably a lot more people and companies that I fail to realize. Some day I will have a Motoko action figure. Some day.)
