When I finally tracked down reasonably-priced Play Arts Kai KH3 Deluxe Riku and Sora at the end of 2025, I told my partner that I needed to build a little house for them. I was then told that what they needed was a tree house, and... yes.
What possessed me? All the things happening in the world at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026. The sentiment "Fuck 'good' art, just make something." The fact that I had a few unused garden stakes, a tooth saw, a drill and some three inch wood screws to build a frame with. Picked up some free cardboard and a made a quick run to the craft store, and--! Uh, it took a while. Longer than I intended. Got more involved than I planned. Drew blood twice. In all, 100% worth it.
I had so much fun doing little bits of woodwork, paper mache, painting, drawing, crochet, making huge messes, and had a lot of lovely people encouraging whatever delightful fever dream this solidified from. Of course it needs a hammock! Obviously it needs paopu throw pillows! It cannot exist without a star-themed throw rug (that still looks like a summoning circle)! The star beanbag just draws it all together! Even getting a cheap string of lights off Ebay required paint for stars and re-winding the wire with green yarn to match The Aesthetic. And there's room for swings, so it needs swings! A lot of the additional accessories are also my partner's fault, but I have a feeling that more things may wind up on the bookshelf from other lovely enablers before too much longer.
I love this and it pleases me and that is all that matters. Despite all of the work and the effort, the time ("well over a month" is all I'm willing to acknowledge) and the resources, it has energized me... and now all I need to do is find a better place to keep it. Seeing as how it wound up at roughly 36" x 21" x 15", I will need all the help I can get.
