Kaiyou

Kaiyou

While the ocean in her home, the beach is her preferred hunting ground. Or... not so much "hunting ground" as "people-watching hangout", but you know. You do have to act tough when you're from the ocean. Not that she won't go nuts over saltwater taffy.

She's been over half finished for a while now, waiting to hear back from someone... but I couldn't wait any longer. She needed to be finished, so here she is. I kinda splurged on the beads for her tail a while ago, so I'm finally making use of them. And really... they're just gorgeous on her. She's really got a lovely sparkle.

Sien and Selia

Sien and Selia

I had not meant to make a pair of dragons. They insisted. This is the result of my wandering into a local bead store. I think I will be going back soon.

As for the critters themselves, they really can't be separated. Selia and Sien are quite very much in love and not in the least bit willing to do something silly like stay away from one another. While they'd normally be living in the forest and flashing those bright tails at unknowing passers-by to trick them into abandoning their food (they'd learned to work with tourists, you see), I'm sure they'd like to travel and see other places. Just... watch your food. Sandwiches, most of all.

Levi

Levi

It's a first attempt at a lot of things... but I think he's kind of a giant leap. I like him. A lot. A damn lot. It's obviously taking quite a bit of what I've learned up to this point and mixing it together to create happy shiny Levi. He is, in fact, a bracelet with the catch hidden a little bit better into the design. The hook isn't so much, but being beneath his jaw, I just plain didn't mind that part.

And for the name... Levi. Three different shades of blue, Levi... Levis... oh nevermind.

Sanguine

Sanguine

She is mine. I found these drop-dead gorgeous blood- cranberry- pomegranate-red beads... it just had to happen. Of course, because I created Sanguine for the express purpose of being my dragon bracelet, she gave me more trouble than any of the others. So much more. I cannot even describe, nor do I want to think about it... but it goes to show how worthwhile this project was. And boy did I learn new techniques quickly.

She is a bit... different than the others in several ways. I am not in the least bit complaining, mind you... it's just a reminder that my intent only means so much. Heh.

Alchemist's Pet

Alchemist's Pet

It's not uncommon for the most powerful magicians to keep a jeweled snake as a familiar. It's a bit of a status symbol, admittedly--but alchemists are able to make use of the jewels, and certain magicians can keep spells within them. The result is a "living" familiar, something that moves and appears to have a bit of its own consciousness.

Of course, this is not a jeweled serpent but a jeweled dragon, of a different sort of connotation in magic... Whether the dragon created the alchemist or the alchemist created the dragon remains unclear. I suppose you can ask, if you'd really like to.

I love this necklace. I didn't when I was in the middle of making it. This is the culmination of possibly a little over two weeks of work. Many, many hours. Many, many beads, and lots of Swarovski crystals. Depending upon the lighting, you will be able to notice the subtle shift in color of the diamonds along her back. It's a lot more obvious in person, but trying to get bright light on these beads for photographing purposes? No. Just, no.

And just because, yes I view her as a she. ...She just feels like a she. Now I must rest my poor abused wrist. Ow. A worthy ow, but an ow.

Renfrew

Renfrew

Renfrew is bright-eyed and brand new to the world, and has a curiosity as enormous as his appetite. He’ll lose the iridescent green on his feet and tummy as he grows older, but he’ll gain them in stripes on his back.  Until then, he’s perfectly happy with the way he looks, thank you.

I MEANT TO DO SOMETHING SIMPLE.  I swear I did, really.  I recall, clearly, starting on the head and thinking, “Well, this should be easy.”  I have no idea what happened.  Somewhere along the way the idea to make him wired for full poseability came up and… I don’t know.  Head, neck, back, tail, legs and even each individual toe is all fully wired, fully poseable.

37 lovely glass beads grace Renfrew’s back and the top of his feet, and his eyes are real amethyst.  He’s made of smooth, soft acrylic yarn, and the green highlights are green iridescent pigment in a fabric paint base (it’s not coming off, in other words).  He’s 9.25 inches in length with his tail out straight, he stands roughly 3.5 inches tall (though his legs can be further straightened to stand taller if you’re into that sort of thing), and he’s approximately 2 inches wide at his widest point.

(“Renfrew” means “from the still waters” in Welsh, by the way.  It fit beautifully.)

Sleeping Companion

Sleeping Companion

A friend, one of my former voice actors and my former "boss" at a gaming web site liked my little shiny tree. And so I was commissioned for a little sculpture/tree combination to decorate his workspace. This would be the result--and, as usual, it was impossible to photograph well. I did what I could.

This sculpture represents many moments of "argh", and yet turned out beautifully. The larger Swarovski crystals, for instance. When I bought them, I thought they'd be a bit more red than orange, and didn't think they would work--but somehow with the smaller, dark red crystals and the paint job on the little beastie, it all just worked nicely. The tiny crystals were a whole other spontaneous and insane moment of "what if I did this..." that worked out for no reason at all. And then we have the layered paint job on the creature itself, which is actually composed of black, brown, earthy red, copper, bronze and gold in varying degrees. It looks so much better in person. As for that extreme close-up shot of the sleeping creature itself, you can see that it's kind of part of the roots of the tree. I got to the point where I was cleaning pant off and... it just looked good. So I left it. Maybe he's curled around the tree, maybe he's part of the tree. Maybe he's a little... draconic dryad. I don't know, he's just awesome.

The more important point, though, is that the little critter is enjoyed. I hope it's a nice little companion to shiny up the workspace, and also to make people wonder. Even more than usual.

Stella

Stella

Stella is a sweet young wyvern with a passion for the dramatic and... well, apparently my PSP. She's definitely a star gazer, always looking up and being curious as to what the future may bring, dreaming of places far away and worlds that have yet to be written down... but there's time. I think maybe she wants to be a great dramatic actress, or play one in a student production.

Another spectacular accomplishment, in my eyes. I used the same base pattern with Stella that I had with Andrew... and then ignored the lines entirely. I wanted something a little more "obviously handmade-looking", hence the slight change in the wing design. The rest just sort of... worked out as it did. I did more hand sewing on her than I had on Andrew, and my fingers are definitely feeling it right now. Everything is mine--pattern, stitching, design--but the eyes. Those are hand-painted acrylic safety eyes from Suncatcher Eyes. They're gorgeous.
